According to the UNCRC, Child Rights are minimum entitlements and freedoms that should be exercised by all citizens below the age of 18 regardless of race, colour, creed, gender, language, religion, opinions, origins, wealth, birth status or ability. There are four broad classifications: Right to Survival, Right to Protection, Right to Participation, and Right to Development.
Child Protection
UNICEF defines child protection as the prevention of, or responding to, the incidence of abuse, exploitation, violence and negligence towards children. The Children Act, amended in 2018, mandated that delinquents in conflict with the law be kept in a juvenile correctional home. UCEP Nepal manages four Juvenile Correction Homes for the Government of Nepal, and in coordination with the National Child Rights Council (NCRC) runs a Socialization Center for street children.
